Lesya Ukrainka Monument
Larissa Kosach
1871-1913
Lesya Ukrainka (pen name Larissa Kosach) remains a central figure in Ukrainian literature.  Undaunted by a debilitating lifelong illness she created a rich legacy of lyrical verse, dramatic poetry, prose works, critical essays, articles on socio-political themes, studies in folklore, ethnography and translations into Ukrainian from modern and classical languages.  Recurring themes in her works are: the relationship of the individual to the community, social justice, the role of woman in society, human dignity, personal and national liberty and the writer was a force of betterment.
