Bronze sculpture of Irish Famine immigrant
This sculpture is the first of a series of bronze sculptures to be installed in Ireland Park at the south-east corner of Bathurst Street and Queen's Quay West, to commemorate the Irish Famine in 1847.

Between May and October 1847, 38,000 Irish Famine emigrants arrived at Toronto's waterfront at a time when the population of the city was a mere 20,000.  Over 2,000 of these emigrants settled in Toronto, but 1,100 men, women and children died of starvation and typhus and cholera and are buried in a mass grave at Queen and Power Streets besides St. Paul's Church.

To build the Park, Ireland Park Foundation has embarked upon a campaign to raise $1,5 million.  Ireland Park will be formally dedicated and open to the public on June 21, 2007.
