HMCS Cormorant in the 1950's there were four motor launches built for the Royal Canadian Navy, to be used as replacement for the last four aging Fairmile launches.  These four new launches were built in Great Lakes shipyards, and were used by Great Lakes training establishments

to be used for officer training and ship-handling training.  During their lifetime they also served as Air-Sea-Rescue Launches when required.  They were named after birds and were known as Bird Class Patrol Launches.  The other three launches were Mallard, Loon, and Blue Heron, and were built at Grew Boatworks, Taylor Boatworks and Hunter Boatworks respectively.  Cormorant was built at Midland Boatworks.  They served until the mid 1950' and then were sold either for conversion to private yachts or for scrap.
